4 Architectural Trends for Custom Homes

4 Architectural Trends for Custom Homes

Architectural trends come and go, but long-lasting styles are sustained in current custom home building.  Blending elements of old and new creates a seamless balance between two worlds.  Here are four architectural trends for custom homes that are dominating South Florida building.

Modern/Contemporary

Many custom homes built in South Florida today are tending toward a modern or contemporary architectural style.  These homes have clean, straight lines with flat roofs and overhangs.  Some of these homes seem very square in shape, but forward thinking design incorporates depth along with height variations to be more visually appealing from the exterior.  These homes have subtle exterior features such as stone and wood cladding as opposed to grand columns and bandings.

Transitional

Transitional homes combine a classic or traditional style with contemporary elements.  Clean lines and neutral colors allow for light and warmth. A minimalist approach is key here as features of a transitional architectural design incorporate traditional pitched roofs, textured elements and minimal accents.  There are limited uses of accessories and ornamentation.

British West Indies

A coastal feel defines the British West Indies style custom home.  Architectural features include a flat-tiled pitched roof, large glass exterior doors , square columns enclosing large balconies and porches along with louvered shutters and exposed wood beams.
